Raffles Hotel Singapore

Hotel Raffles

The Hotel Raffles is the best example of Singapore's colonial era. The grandeur of its façade is only comparable to the fascinating interior.

In the interior courtyards of Raffles Hotel you will find beautiful fountains, luxurious fashion shops, bars and restaurants.

While the history of a normal hotel is not overly disturbing, the Raffles Hotel has meant a lot in the past 120 years of city history.

In the year 1887 was founded by Sir Stamford Raffles and began to give accommodation in 10 rooms. Twelve years later the main building was inaugurated and, at the beginning of the 20th century, it became a symbol of oriental power.

After World War II the hotel temporarily served as an Allied prison camp.

In 1987, the Government of Singapore qualified it as National Monument and was remodeled with a budget of 160 million dollars.
